This 25 South Residence in Prabhadevi Boasts of High Ceilings and Breathes Easy | Design Vault

One who is full of life (a.k.a. One of many names of Lord Vishnu) – a name lovingly bestowed upon their new abode by the Vermas … Nestled in a stunning 57 storey tower, this 25 South residence in Prabhadevi boasts of high ceilings and breathes easy with its expansive glass windows and awe-inspiring views of the Arabian sea! We designed the space for a family of four, to be modern and functional with plenty of room for art collected over the years, so much so that every wall is a conversation starter.

The first thing you notice while entering is the luminosity & grandness of the foyer. It feels like a heritage hotel lobby! Across a west-facing window, sits a ‘Ultramarine blue’ console – forming a base for a gorgeous Madhubani Art work- a literal heirloom preserved by the client over decades!

A geometric pattern flooring created with 3 toned marble highlights the entrance – almost like a red carpet welcome for its guests ! The ceiling here curves gently on the edges and is rendered in a metallic  texture paint, while a smokey gray crystal chandelier from Kapoor Lights creates a sense of luxury right from the get go! A similar approach continues on to the corridor leading to the delicately nested Mandir area. Art & intricate details set the stage for every element of this home, as evidenced in the mandir, where layers of  Vietnamese white marble with gold inlay, create a soft halo around the Deity’s Idol. The background walls are embellished with moulding and texture paint while the mandir console has mother of pearl inlay – carefully handcrafted by artisans.

A seamless corridor with hidden full height storages leads to the Living room– that melds boundaries & styles to highlight the homeowners love for Art & eye for Details.

A subtle geometry combines the formality of straight lines with intermittent soft curves. Swathing the walls & ceiling in an ash gray atop the calm white marble floors, helps to soften the overall ambience while being rich in detail. Vertical lines on various surfaces accentuate the height of the spaces which is noticeable in the delicate-almost fabric like curved panelling overarching this naturally lit living room. The rugs here are a Carpet Couture design.

The furniture exudes a contemporary sophistication, with opulent materials and textures rendering a ‘luxurious’ ambience. The section with the Rounded sofas sitting & swivel chair- around  the circular rug, was designed to encourage coming together and enjoy conversations

An east-oriented window of the dining steeps the space in sunlight, turning it into a lightbox during the day. A beautiful Saron colin eight seater never fails to live up to a hearty meal – be it for a quick bite ,drinks with friends or an elaborate dinner. This 7-foot dining table is complemented by customized- framed colour rendition of ‘the plate project ‘ wall decor.

The bar unit is reminiscent of ‘cabinet of curiosities’. A metal mesh and sandwiched glass intricately fused to create its magnificent shutters showcasing how a whiff of traditions interacts with a decidedly modern air of the home. Fluted walnut along the ceiling periphery with metal pendants from The White Teak company completes this space. A neat buffet counter in walnut sits adjacent to the Bar -an ideal worktop to mix drinks.

Originally irregularly shaped, this kitchen space was restructured to streamline the activity flow and make it more functional. The kitchen  radiates modern aesthetics, revolving around a captivating light oak wood coffee bar- carved out especially to ‘Fix a quick coffee on the go’. Adjacent to this entry stands a tall pantry – a ‘must have’  for the homeowners who are spirited hosts and entertain almost every other day. A touch of burgundy injects a burst of vibrancy into the space with  geometric floor tile pattern and pristine white countertops !

The rooms are similarly eclectic. The den adorns muted colors, robust textures and quirky furniture, and serves as a backdrop for a kaleidoscope of the family’s collection of books, records, and bits and bobs collected from their travels over the years.

Darker than the rest of the home, but just as luminous with the blue boy side table & an abstract canvas painting by a local artist adding just the right amount of ‘vibrancy’.

It serves as a study on some days, and guest bedroom on others with a wall bed neatly tucked within the panelled wall display. Rug by Carpet Couture flatters the chevron walnut wooden floors.

The parent’s  bedroom is doused with earthy elements and minimalist palettes create a calm, cosy vibe to inspire rest and sound sleep. A simple design scheme defined by clean lines, smooth textures and warm teak wood defines this space.

Accents of cane in the wooden furniture adds character to the otherwise muted palette of browns, beiges & whites. The earthy headboard fabric from ‘kalakari haath’ – has forms which are familial to the moulding geometry and further enhances the space.

For the Kids bedroom in this prabhadevi home, the walls are quenched in crisp grey tints & tones with furniture furnished in hints of rust and warm wooden accents. The essence of aeronautical enthusiasm is captured for the teenager, through an integrated light installation – which doubles up as wall decor when not lit.

A peg wall displays curios and memorabilia inspiring the teenager’s creativity- we call it opportunity for organized chaos! An additional bench seating is integrated along the study table ,creating more space to hang out  with friends.

Likewise, the primary bedroom was elevated with an artisanal cane wall installation. A Four post rosewood  bed takes centre stage, flanked by side tables with intricate fluting details. An enchanting shade of pastel violet on the cane wall effortlessly blends in with rosewood & creates a whimsical glow.

Panelling with rhythmic grooves near the dressing area continues onto the Tv wall creating design coherence, thoughtfully blending form with function. Nestled in the corner is a  grey-tinted study nook with some shelf display .
